Moose ready for the second half

The Metro Moose are excited to get started with the second half of the season. The Moose currently sit atop the Western Conference of the CHA with an impressive 26-1 record. The team has been a work in progress as many of the players had never played a Junior game prior to this season. After getting off to a rocky start against some tough non league competition the team has come together and managed very well in the CHA portion of their schedule.

The month of January promises to be a challenging month for the young squad. Right after the break the Moose will head up to Marlboro, MA for the EJ Showcase. The Moose will face off against three tough Empire League teams in the Bay state Breakers, Maximum, and the CD Selects. The Moose has done well at previous EJ Showcases and the coaching staff expects another good showing. Just before the all star game, the Moose will travel to New Jersey to face off against perennial Met League power the New Jersey Titans. Head Coach Craig Doremus said “Dustin is one of the best coaches in our area. His teams are extremely well coached and very disciplined. The Titans will be a good test for our club as we prepare for the post season.”

The CHA All-Star Game is also in mid January and this year the Moose had an impressive 8 players selected to participate in the prestigious event. Coach Doremus will lead the Western Conference and will be joined by Ryan Cheng, Gavin Grogan, Matt Galeano, Sam Manzi, John Schiavo, Patrick Schule, Kevin Barry and goaltender Peter Guerriera.

The coaching staff is eager to get back on the ice and prepare for the stretch run of the season. Assistant Coach Bobby DiRico said “The best part about our team is that we have improved day by day, week by week. With such a young roster we knew it would take the entire season for this team to realize its potential. I am excited to see what the second half holds.”

On the injury front, the team reports that forward Evan Kundrat should resume workouts this week. Forward Brian Schehr is out indefinitely as he heads towards surgery in January.
