Moose believe in player
development while
maintaining success
As the season heads towards the postseason run, the Metro Moose staff
couldn’t be happier with their first few months in the MET league.
After a long, somewhat odd off season, the team has responded well
and established themselves as a well respected organization in the
MET league.
The first few months saw the Moose jump out to an impressive start
in league play. The players established themselves amongst their peers
and more importantly coaches. Moose captain Joey Gilhooly was recognized
for his strong performance and off the ice and was called up the AJHL
by the New York Bobcats. Since joining the Bobcats, Joey has been
a mainstay in their lineup and played a key role in their ascension
in the AJ standings.
Moose and MET league leading scorer Dominick Sacco was invited to
skate with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL in late November. After impressing
while out there, Dominick was called up in late December to play 10
games with Omaha. Throughout his first 5 games in Omaha, Dominick
has tallied 2 goals and 2 assists. Dominick has thrived in his first
season with the Moose and has drawn the interest of a number of Division
1 programs.
’94 forward John Schiavo who joined the Moose early last season
has also had a great start to the season. While centering the Moose’
top line, John has thrived offensively. To date John has tallied 27
goals and 24 assists in just 31 games played. John has drawn interest
from some major college programs and promises to be one of the most
sought after players in the MET league this off season.
’93 defenseman Vincent Conanan joined the Moose shortly before
the holidays and has quickly made a big impact from the blue line.
He has scored a number of big goals, while playing major minutes on
both the penalty kill and power play. Vinny was rewarded for his hard
work by earning a weekend call up to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays of
the NAHL. Vinny will spend a week practicing with the team and take
part in their weekend match.
